Once you configure your Telegram and/or Facebook Messenger bot, you will need to set your default messages. Here's everything you need to know about this process:

What are default messages?

Default messages are messages that your bot will send in response to specific user commands or cues. Bulletin offers predefined default messages; however, we recommend that you customize these to match your brand's tone and editorial style.

Types of default messages

You can customize three types of default messages:

1. Up-to-date message

This message is automatically sent once the bulletin is finished. It lets users know that they are up-to-date.

2. Unknown answer message

Users will receive this message if they send a response that is different than the reply options that your bot has provided. The unknown answer message should be used to keep the conversation on track.

Note: Your bot will automatically send this default message to users on Telegram. Facebook Messenger users will also receive this response so long as the handover protocol is inactive.

3. Skip poll message

This is the default message that a user can select to skip a poll.

How can I adjust my default messages?

Click the 'Settings' button located in the upper-right corner of your dashboard.

From there, click 'Default messages' under 'Bot behavior.'

Adjust each default message in the appropriate box. When you are finished, click 'Save' to apply your changes.

What's next?

  • Your first interaction with your user is extremely important. Set your bot's onboarding messages according to your brand requirements.
